- How large is the game world?
Since Alucinor is made up of multiple zones, it's hard to give an exact size. To provide a feel for scope though, there are 55 separate zones in Alucinor, each varying in size.
The smaller zone maps could possibly be crossed from one side to the other in just a couple of minutes (assuming nothing nasty decides to slow you down along the way). The larger maps can take several minutes or more. In the end, the amount of land mass is in the same ballpark as UO when it initially shipped, and should provide many, many hours of exploration.
- Will characters be able to swim?
Yes, characters can swim in the water of Alucinor.
- Will there be zones, or will it be a seamless world?
UXO’s world will be made up of many separate maps, or zones. Not only does this allow us to have more detail on our maps by lessening the amount of data being loaded simultaneously, but it also allows us to potentially create any map as a private map, where we can create quests, or guilds can host massive PvP battles.
- What forms of travel will UXO feature?
UXO features two major forms of travel (aside from running, of course) that players can use to quickly get where they want to be. First, UXO includes a moongate system, which consists of magical portals that allow you to teleport from one map to another very quickly. Many outdoor maps have moongates, and you can use a moongate to travel to any other moongate that you have access to.
In addition to moongates, UXO will allow players to instantly teleport their friends to their location, greatly reducing downtime and making it simple for friends to quickly group together even if they start out on opposite sides of the world.
Whether your evening play time consists of three hours or 30 minutes, you’ll be able to spend all of that time playing, as opposed to traveling to the place you want to be. Just log in, ask a friend to teleport you, and you’re adventuring with them within seconds!
- What kinds of towns will be found in UXO?
Each race has a starting town, resulting in a total of six towns. Each will have a distinctly different look and feel based on its home race, and they all serve as ideal places to purchase and sell items, bank loot, socialize, and trade items.
- Will the game take place in Britannia?
No. Ultima X: Odyssey takes place in the stunning new world of Alucinor.
- Zones - Public and Private
The entire land of Alucinor is divided up in Zones. There are 55 "Public Zones", the actually landmass that anyone can run around on, alone or with groups. When players accept a quest or mission, the game takes the player into a Private Zone, created solely so that the player and his group can perform the Quest without other players wandering in and ruining the event. Also, this will eliminate the "Stand in Line and wait your turn" problem when too many people show up for the same quest.
Other plans for Private quest are for guilds to host events, for themselves or everyone, allowing one to control the enviroment to the degree of who they want involved - and who they don't. More on this will be disclosed later we are told. As for the amount of private servers the Unreal engine and server hardware can handle is unknown at this point.
