Odyssey Adventure System
The opportunity for adventure awaits you at every step in UXO thanks to the all-new Odyssey Adventure System. This unique technology ensures that your time spent in UXO is filled with exciting adventures based on your chosen Virtue path. You'll never have to wander around looking for adventures -- adventure will be looking for you.
In UXO you will encounter two types of adventures: Quests and Missions.
- Quests are generated by the Odyssey Adventure System based on the Virtue you choose for your character. Quests find you as you travel through the world of UXO.
- Missions, on the other hand, are adventures you seek out by traveling to town taverns and talking to specific adventure non-player characters (NPCs).
A Revolutionary Quest System
The Odyssey Adventure System is radically different from other massively-multiplayer online game (MMOG) questing systems in that quests come to you. Here's how it works …
While you're exploring Alucinor, NPCs and creatures approach you. An exclamation icon above their head indicates that this character has a quest for you. Click on that character to run the Quest Cinematic and see what adventure awaits you.
You choose the general direction of your quest after creating your character in UXO. Visit gypsies in town to select which of the eight Virtues you want to pursue. The Odyssey Adventure System then modifies and customizes quests based on your choice. Then, as you set off on your adventure, you encounter quests that allow you to gain Virtue points in your selected Virtues.
For example, if you are one who seeks Justice, you may come across the body of a slain innocent and be given the opportunity to avenge his death. Similarly, if you're seeking Compassion, you may be asked to help rescue a kidnapped priestess. Moreover, most quests have multiple branches, allowing for a variety of outcomes and opportunities for you to gain points in more than one Virtue. The Odyssey Adventure System also dynamically customizes the quest to suit you or your party's level by adjusting the length, difficulty, and number of different tasks assigned in each quest.
Quest Parties, Private Areas, and More
You can also participate in a Party Quest. In this type of group quest, all of the members of your party will see the same Quest Cinematic. During a Quest Cinematic you will be unable to interact with objects or other characters, and you cannot be attacked by monsters. However, you will have the ability to chat with others during Quest Cinematic scenes to help make group decisions about a variety of things, including which options to choose to give you the appropriate Virtue points.
As mentioned previously, Quests are easy to find in UXO. They are also easy to follow. To keep track of your quest you'll locate the quest gem on your character portrait -- it points in the direction of the next objective and is updated automatically as your quest unfolds. Not only does the quest gem help you keep on track during your adventure, it also helps you find your way when exploring new lands.
For many quests, the main objective centers around your character's ability to accomplish a specific goal linked to another NPC or monster. With UXO's private areas you have a separate area of the map accessible only to you and your party members. This alleviates some of the frustration you often find in other games in which you arrive at a final objective only to find that the NPC or Monster is missing or has been killed. (Check back soon for more information on Private Areas.)
A Multitude of Missions
In addition to Quests you go on based on the Odyssey Adventure System, you can also seek out specific adventures (Missions) by visiting taverns and other areas in town and talking to NPCs. Your Missions will range from guarding a caravan to gain Honor and Honesty, to delivering goods to an elderly townsperson to gain Compassion, and much more.
You earn Virtue points for completing Missions regardless of your chosen Virtues, allowing you to gain Virtue points across the board. You can repeat Missions as many times as you choose, but they will generally be worth fewer Virtue points than Quests since they will be easier to find and complete.
A World of Adventure Awaits
With quests that come to you and that are adapted to your chosen Virtues, UXO -- featuring the all-new Odyssey Adventure System -- is sure to offer a whole new and dynamic way of playing MMOGs. At launch, the game is slated to feature more than 200 unique quests, lasting from 30 minutes to 8 hours. Whether setting out on Quests or accomplishing Missions, the exciting world of UXO provides countless challenges in the world of Alucinor!
