FRIENDS LIST SYSTEM
One of the most important features of a game — and certainly the only one
that infuses every single aspect of play — is the interface. Newer players
generally prefer an interface that looks good and makes it easy to find the
specific command they're looking for. More experienced players tend to prefer
an interface that allows them to do what they need to do quickly and without
too much thought.
UXO's interface is being designed with both purposes in mind! To access the
interface panel, you can either double-click on your character portrait at the
lower left, or hit the “I” key. The interface page will expand to fill part
of the screen, shifting the game window to the side to avoid covering anything
in your center of view. New players will love the tabs at the top displaying
at a glance everything your character needs, such as inventory, stats and abilities,
guild and party management, quest journals, and one of the most useful tools
in a massively multi-player game: the friends list.
From carrying on multiple conversations, to teleporting your friends directly
to your location, to setting notification preferences to know when your friends
log on and off, the Ultima X: Odyssey friends list will make playing (and socializing!)
a whole lot easier.
Adding and Removing Friends
To add a new friend to your friends list, just click on the “Add Friend” button
and enter their name. They don't have to be on the same map, or even online!
Once your friends are entered, you can choose whether or not to turn on monitoring.
With monitoring on, you'll be notified every time someone on your friends list
logs on or off. Even if you don't want this notification, you can check out
your friends list at any time to see whether your friends are online, what level
they are, and what map they're on currently. You can also keep track of guild
members in much the same way through the guild listing, while using the friends list as a way to keep
track of friends not in your guild.
Removing someone from your friends list couldn't be easier! To remove someone,
just right-click on their name in the list and select “Remove from List.”
Hyperlinks (Or “It Doesn't Get Much Easier Than This!”)
Everywhere you see a character name, you can access a quick menu of options,
reducing typing and helping players always know what their options are. To see
a list of commands available from the friends list, just right-click on a name.
You'll see several options, including “Send private message,” “Invite to my
party,” “Invite to my guild” (if you're a guild leader or have permission to
invite new guild members), “Teleport to me” and “Remove from list.”
If you choose to send a private message, the chat bar will automatically be brought up with that player's name in place, ready to send a message directly
to that player. Inviting someone to your party or guild or sending a teleport
request is just as simple — just select it from the list, and an alert will
be sent to the player notifying them of the invitation, or asking if they would
like to teleport. Most of these options can be used from anywhere a character's
name appears (such as in the chat window, or your guild list, or even the actual
character in-game).
Staying Quiet Through Anonymous Mode
If you're looking to keep a low profile, you can also use the friends list
page to toggle “anonymous” status, which means that to anyone checking their
friends or guild lists, you will appear as offline, and no notifications will
be sent to other players when you log on or off.
Sorting the Friends List
If your friends list grows beyond a few people, you may want to sort them
by which map they're on, or show only those currently online at the top of the
list. In Ultima X: Odyssey, you can sort your friends list by several categories,
including online status, character name, level, and location.
Interacting with other players is key to enjoying the social aspects of a
MMORPG, and thanks to our intuitive interface tabs and the handy hyperlink menu
on names, we've made it easy to know when your friends are online, figure out
where they are, hold conversations, and meet up with them safely — whether you're
a brand new player or a gaming veteran!
