The tinker is an opportunistic user of magic that can drain power not just from the ether, but also from magic on the battlefield. Many a warrior has entered battle decked out with magical weapons and armor, only to find these items siphoned by an enemy tinker who uses their power to his own advantage. The tinker's siphoning ability and aptitude for using armor and weapons make him a unique traveler on the path of power.
Little more is known about what the Tinkers of Ultima X: Odyssey will be like, but we do get at least a hint about them from the details found in Ultima IV literature. As one of the 8 Classes of the Fellowship, here is what it has to say:
TINKER: The Tinkers of Minoc are both highly skilled artisans and superb fighters. They are generally suspicious of magic, believing that only hand-crafted artifacts posses true value, and thus use it seldomly. A Tinker may use any weapon, however, the double-bladed war axe is preferred. Tinkers will use any non-magical armour. A traveling party with a Tinker aboard need never fear for repair of any metal or wooden items.
